I was over reading the information at https://secure.runescape.com/m=news/2022-account-services-and-player-security-improvements and I'm not clear as to what it means about "creating new Jagex accounts". Does this mean the characters we have been playing on for years are to be re-created as a "jagex account"? (Or does this simply mean we can create brand new characters to play with?)

As this is a questions about a feature that is yet to come, rather than an actual account issue, this thread has been moved to the Future Game Updates Forum.

Ultimately, it appears that the goal is to have one Jagex account that can hold all of your RuneScape characters.

Jagex Accounts will be released in three stages. First, we will allow the creation of new Jagex accounts. Then, we will offer a simple migration process to upgrade from a RuneScape account to a Jagex account. And finally, we will allow multiple RuneScape accounts to be merged into a single Jagex account, so that all your characters can be accessed with a one set of login credentials. At that point, there will be a character selection and management screen in-game, and creating a new character will require just a single click.
