I like the idea, however, they tend to spam up the chat with the announcements. Literally every few seconds there is a new town crier message, and for me anyway, the text is the same color as the clan chat. So it's a bit annoying.
It is much better now. When the Town Criers came out in 2007 they were really annoying spammers with ringing their bells with irritating high pitch.
RS3 made improvements to them in many occasions since then. Their messages have been toned down over the years. While they are making less agitating voices in the game, they still make an announcement once every 30 seconds or so. Maybe this can be toned down to once every minute. They may change to color of the texts too.
