I'm struggling to get any decent Necromancy xp.
I've seen posts on here with people reporting over 1 mill xp an hour or more... it's taken me a week to hit one million >.< (playing 4-5 hours a day, occasionally more)

I've tried Rituals (clicking as many random events as I can), tried combat (5 Nechryaels in my Player Owned Dungeon), read everything I can find... but I must be doing something badly wrong.

I've been buying inks to speed things up so it's also costing me quite a lot.

I'm not bothered about maxing in days (like some people did (how??) but I'd love to speed things up a bit.

If anyone knows the whereabouts of a good guide, or fancies writing one, that would be awesome.

The one Tenebri posted is the most effective providing you have all those perks.

Thanks, I'll take a look.

I have not seen his guide, but his info is normally good. The best xp will come after level 90 for rituals and then overloads to boost the unlocks. Like you I do bits of both and remember if you buy the ink you miss out on the xp to make it so might not be faster at early/mid-levels.

I saw you other post about ashes so I would say kill mummy rather than nechryael, they will be less xp but they have almost no defence so easy to kill and 2 birds 1 stone. Vip porter buff for an hour works well if you have it and magic paper the rest. All the undead slayer/ghosthunter/salve ammy type items will work on them rather than demon slayer you might be using now.

Make sure to unlock scythe 2 or 3 is even better if not already with blood siphon on revo bar nothing else and sit back and relax. Active combat xp you should do something like abyssal savages and get around 1.2m ph but I get that afking rituals. Active rituals after 90 you are looking at 3m+.

Ps. don't try and put mummy in pod as they change into level 22 zombies. Normal abyssal monsters are also good for ashes but harder to find a free spot.

Thanks, that's really helpful :)

At your level (80), combat is best for XP. Combat xp/h is dependant on your gear, your revo bar (if wanting to primarily AFK) and the monsters you kill.

At 80, I did Bound Skeletons in my own slayer dungeon. I first had to gather the souls to put them there. You place them in the small room. The XP/h should be around 300-450k XP per hour. The hourly rate depends on your gear and ability rotation.

Armoured zombies and abby demons are other decent things to kill. However, you will have to compete with others for spots which is why many opt to just kill something like Bound Skeletons in their dungeon. No competition and the XP is not that bad.

Once you hit 90+, rituals become so much better. You do the powerful rituals (Necroplasm seems to be most recommended) and boost to 107 Necromancy to make the Attraction 3 Glyphs. This is what boosts the XP by a lot. The random events you get are insane.

The XP/h continues to go up as you level. It starts off at around 1m xp/h and continues to increase to 2m and above. Once you hit 99, you can add an Attraction 2 Glypth to the skillcape which further boosts XP/h. At 107, you can add the Attraction 3 Glyph to the cape. Potion boosts don't work for the cape perk, so you need to have the level to add the Glyph to the cape.

You only need to boost when you have to repair the Glyphs. Your boost doesn't need to be active at all times.

It does cost some money, but it's nowhere near as expensive as the first week or so. Inks have crashed significantly. Most people that didn't have the capital to do it before can now do it (reason why so many are now hitting 99, 120 and 200M so quickly).

The only "issue" with rituals is you need to be active. You cannot really AFK it if you want the best XP/h.

This spreadsheet is pretty useful. It came from Maikeru's stream.

Looks like the above link isn't working properly.

It seems that at the higher levels, you need pretty decent combat gear to get the optimal XP/H (1m+ per hour).

I opted to do just do rituals because I don't have things like Zuk cape and can't be bothered getting it. I was not hitting the combat XP/h rates I commonly saw referenced, guessing that's because my gear and perks were really lacking. I previously had not played for several years, so I was really unprepared for the skill. Luckily you don't need much to do rituals efficiently.

I tried doing the skeletons with T70 and kept losing health . Maybe T90 is what I need >.<

They do hit quite hard. Making use of Soul Split prayer, the Blood Siphon ability and the Ghost conjures can be helpful. I had both of those on my Revolution bar. Using a Blood Reaver familiar or even a Bunyip can also be useful for additional healing. If you have the Enhanced Excalibur, that can also be used to provide further healing every 5 minutes. There's also supposedly spots you can stand in that make it so only 2 Skeletons are attacking you at a time, while still being able to damage the others with AOE abilities. I did not experiment much with that.

I used T70 Necro power gear with the highest tier weapon I had available. Power gear will be better than tank because your DPS will be better. Tank gear also works and will make it easier to stay alive, but you will sacrifice some XP/h for it due to less DPS.

T70 armour should be OK for Skeletons. Just need the right abilities for both damage and healing. Zombies conjures are good for speed kills since the AOE does a lot of damage. However, you cannot heal from them with Soul Split, so it may be a struggle to stay alive if you wish to primarily AFK. Ghost conjures are better for staying alive, but XP probably does take a hit by frequently using them.

I am a 17 year veteran with about 2.2 billion XP. I just am about to 1M in necro after 11 days, at 2-4 hours per day. Low level skills go slowly on XP, but fast on levels. It changes at higher level so leveling is slower (because of millions of XP per level, especially above level 100). However, the XP per item is much larger. For example, if I get 4 type of armor and weapons to hit a conversion point at the same time, I can get 1m XP in a matter of minutes. That is what is so good about Runescape, because it gives you a lot of options, with new options in your skills to keep it interesting over the years at a low cost for membership (under $100 per year).
