So I'm going to be unpopular here, but I didn't hate the Hero pass in it's original iteration...
...Yes, I agree that it was very MTX heavy and it sucked to lose an existing system that most people enjoyed (daily challenges) to essentially have it re-added in a worse format, with most of the exp-related rewards gone, but Jagex have acknowledged that this wasn't their finest hour, and that's appreciated.
What I enjoyed about it, however, was that instead of being forced to log in every day through the fear of missing out on the cumulative rewards from the Daily Challenge streaks, you were suddenly allowed to log into the game and do whatever you liked for 30 mins or so, and be rewarded for it.
Okay, the rewards weren't great, and the total time that it took to complete the daily hero missions (tier 3) took significantly longer to complete than the time it took to complete 3 daily challenges, but at least with this system you were actually playing the game.
For me, logging into the game for what? 10 minutes? To complete Daily Challenges in random skills before I could then 'start my day', so to speak, felt boring and as though I was being forced to play if I didn't want to lose out on rewards, but suddenly being rewarded for logging in and managing my player-owned-farm was nice.
I appreciate that there were more issues than I've covered here and I don't need to list them out, however, I don't think a knee-jerk reaction to add Daily Challenges back to the game was the move here.
Instead, I propose the following:
- Keep the Hero Pass with the changes that have already been made and the ones that are due to be made as of the most recent post from Jagex
- Instead of adding the entire Daily challenge system back, just remove the 'Daily: Earn Hero Point _" Basic Mission from the Hero pass and replace it with the three daily challenges we're used to having. However, have them reward exp AND Hero Points.
