From experience so far, the hero points gain works by giving
4 hero points per minute
- in theory.
But is it 1 minute of being logged in? Would you obtain your 4 hero points also when changing your character's clothing? When reading quest NPC dialogue? When running around and exploring without earning xp? Or when trying to get an achievement for resting a total of 150min? Apparently not.
So is it earning xp then? Grinding wyvern bones gives 1xp per bone, and if you do this for several minutes, you'd expect at least a few drops of 4 hero points over the course of that. But apparently not. You can grind wyvern bones for 5min in a row and not receive a single hero point.
Grinding wyvern bones is apparently ineligible skilling as far as hero points are concerned.
Participating in the wilderness flash event with the evil tree also has a weird effect on hero points. Feeding the tree in phase 1 give no hero points, but chopping the tree in phase 2 does. Why is that?
Combat also doesn't appear balanced. While slayer with several kills per minute will probably work just fine, killing a boss that doesn't have minions will only give xp when the boss dies and nothing inbetween. If the kill takes longer than 1 minute (as it will for most people at most bosses), you'll miss out on all the hero points you could have gained by fighting easy mobs instead, or just cutting gems or mining copper ore.
I think a clear explanation is needed what will gain you hero points and what won't. And how many.
Please, Jagex, publish how it works, and check if you maybe forgot a few things that should work but currently don't.
