From the July Newsletter, Mod Timbo revealed the BTS design of Necromancy:

The RS3 Necromancy "skill" is really based on D2's Necromancer Class. There are a lot of interesting things with this revelation.
So the 4th ever Combat Style/skill in RS3 is really similar to, and designed from Diablo 2's class. It probably means even D2 players will be very familiar with all the combat mechanics and such.
Then D2's Necromancer class has 3 primary builds - Summoner, Curse, bones and poison. Our offhand Lantern is doing a lot of the Summoner tricks already, and the main hand is the source for Curse, maybe a bit of the Tank class too. We still don't have the full blown Bones and Poison, which is an AOE build. So perhaps there is something we may see RS3 Necromancy can expand into next.
Now there is also the question of whether RS3 needs classes like other games? Personally I think we can have them but don't need to call them classes, and perhaps we can just call whatever new "class" features of other games' other classes we can adapt into RS3 combat styles.
Necromancy really has a lot of potentials not just to existing and returning Jagex players, but even new players from other games like Diablo should have no problem getting familiar with the such pseudo-class "skills" in RS3.
Even Diablo players are getting AFK builds lately, hey, we have plenty of AFK ideas in RS3 too.
Opinions on how to expand Necromancy?
