I updated my launcher and the very first thing I notice about the page is an icon about "Drugs and in-game purchases". I am uncertain what this means. It is not a functional link and even if it was, would I want to click something about that topic? Jagex, you put that on there. Perhaps you could be a bit more explanatory about it? I have no interest in having anything even appear on my screens about drugs. I am a cancer survivor who takes seven prescriptions but I do not take drugs not prescribed by a physician.

Please get this off my screen or get me a way to remove it. I do not care if you are in partnership with some organization that is helping people with addiction problems. You could do that and be NOT have the text that eyes see read "Drugs and in-game purchases."

That is very unthoughtful of your user-interface team members. Get it off of there or change the way that organization presents itself!

There are links on the bottom of the home page. The issue related to 'drugs'....

The player's character can gather resources in order to brew their own alcoholic drinks. The consumption of these drinks gives health and status benefits.

Two words is all it would take to make this clear. Apparently, this is a "rating system" in Europe and I see what you mean, that there is "alcohol" within the game. Making it have a "Game Rating" of PEGI 16.

It is a shame that Jagex did not put a title above that area saying "Game Ratings:".

Two words is all it would have taken to be clear.

The detailed PEGI 16 - Drug and In Game Purchase rating are described in the official PEGI.org website.

Runescape:

Content specific issues
The player's character can gather resources in order to brew their own alcoholic drinks. The consumption of these drinks gives health and status benefits.

Other issues
This game offers players the opportunity to purchase in-game items, in the form of coins, bonds and treasure keys, which can then be used to obtain cosmetic items and other benefits. The treasure keys can be used to unlock treasure chests, which contain random items. Some parents or carers may want to be aware of this. Parents, carers or other responsible adults should check to see what is being offered before making any purchase on behalf of a child. It should be noted that the game can still be played without the need to purchase such items.

OSRS

Content specific issues
The player's character can gather resources in order to brew and consume alcoholic drinks. The drinking of alcohol gives health and status benefits.

Other issues:
This game offers players the opportunity to purchase in-game items, in the form of Coins, Old School Bonds and memberships, which some parents or carers may want to be aware of. Parents, carers or other responsible adults should check to see what is being offered before making any purchase on behalf of a child. It should be noted that the game can still be played without the need to purchase such items.

I believe Jagex can't "get it off' as that label and descriptions may be required by regulations of some countries. Basically some countries require Jagex to disclose RS3 and OSRS and whatever new games have pixeled drugs and MTX.

Original message details are unavailable.
That tag just seems like a bad idea. I wouldn't want that on a game I was hosting. I would wipe it clean.

Replace that tag with something more respectable. Like violence. :p

More details on the evolution of the PEGI rating system, especially the in game purchase label:

"A useful way to educate parents to check the games that their children play, but which so far only deals with the basic game. Soon, there will also be a new icon that will appear on the packaging of physical products, but this time it will concern in-game purchases.

Making parents aware of optional purchases in games is "an important first step," says Simon Little, general manager of PEGI (as reported by GamesIndustry.biz). "For a parent who may not be fully familiar with video games, seeing this simple descriptor on the packaging of a game they consider buying should trigger the reflex to keep an eye on their child's gameplay, even after the game has been bought and sold. It's basic information, but sometimes it's out of the reach of parents."

The requirement (e.g. under UK regulations) came in 2019 after a French survey. I believe we have seen many players crying MTX in these RSOF too. The governments, real world ones, listened, and they agreed to give us the clear understanding of what is MTX. Hence, we know RS3 and OSRS have in game purchases. We know Bonds are MTX. Thank you for those vocal MTX complainers, the net has closed, catching Jagex and their games with Bonds MTX, and "drugs" too.

If you think games with MTX like RS3 and OSRS parents must be informed with the PEGI in game purchase label make them look bad, too bad then because they are all just that "bad". However, they can't wipe it clean because if Jagex want to do business in many of such countries like UK, they have to come clean with telling us about MTX in their games like RS3 and OSRS.
