This was cool right from the start. The characters are great. The First Necromancer (TFN) was already established with the chat-head promo and I'm glad to see that feature continues with the storyline.

The city has a basic RPG style that is often missing in this game. Characters appearing over time, returning to NPC's to unlock content. Also the question of what happens when you gain a level, and how do you adjust that for future players. Here you have tasks and rituals. You got the level and now there is work to do!

That's a bit of the evolution of Runescape 3. Thinking about new players while not just giving updated skill-based rewards to existing players because they have the level already. We've seen some of that with Crock Oasis and the Herb farming update. Always a good thing, and always good to apply that same concept in different ways. Grind is part of the deal, you don't just get a pass for good behavior.

The combat is great. It always feels strong(ish) because of the hit % system. Your damage is low but you still hit. So that's fun. I tried Anti-Glacor zero mechanics early just to see. I was like yeah I can do this. Then math set in, and it was going to be about 15 minutes. SKIP.

The sounds are good and the new cave trolls show that off. My first reaction to testing the combat there was an old-style arcade feeling with the sounds and visuals. With TFN laughing at you, that would draw a crowd.

The gameplay is sweet as well. There is lots to do if you want. Or you can put some stuff on the revo bar. Attacks look and feel powerful. The stack systems actually make sense in this version of combat. I can build up the power and dump them. The minions are quick to respond and change targets.

Very nice. OSRS players should go check it out. :P

When you gain levels of a combat skill, do you not want to use it on combat content? There are a lot to do with Necromancy combat both in and outside City of Um. The choice of whether to use it is yours.

"Thinking about new players while not just giving updated skill-based rewards to existing players because they have the level already."

Existing players all start with level 1 Necromancy. No existing players start with any Necromancy level higher than 1. Existing players will never get to reap all the rewards of tangible rewards from City of Um like Hermond and Rasial rewards, Tome of UM among among other new content like the 3rd Necromancy boss and TBA content. And we are also going to have remastered undead and Necromancer mobs like Kerapac and The Magister that are great experience with Necrmancy.

"Grind is part of the deal, you don't just get a pass for good behavior."

There will be some sort of grinding in any traditional MMORPG like RS3. Different players may have different taste on how much grinding. However, we have some number to grind at now:

"99 Necromancy in one singular gaming session!! Took just under 26:00:00"

A little more than a day of actual in game grinding from 1 to 99 Necromancy. It seems very chilling and fun to most video gamers. So even if we only play 1 hour a day, we will get to 99 Necromancy within a month. Pretty chilling and cozy xp.

Thinking about players maxed magic and level 1 ranged, while not just giving updated ranged-based rewards to them because they have the 99 magic already... Why should players with 99 magic and 1 ranged automatically receive ranged-based rewards 99 ranged players have? Absolutely no reason... and therefore 99 magic players who all start out with 1 Necromancy should have no reason to claim Necromancy based rewards. :)

The simplest statement to look at Necromancy is it is just a new combat style similar to Magic, Ranged and Melee. We should look at Necromancy as a combat skill more than just a skill, similar to the other 3 combat style. Then everything is very easy to understand to everybody, including OSRS players.

It doesn't hurt anybody to try anyway, even free players as we have 20 free levels and their rewards to play with. And even the full grind to level 99 takes us only 26 hours.
