Today, on Wednesday 24th January, 2024, the day before the RSOF close forever, Jagex posed the following question on their Facebook page:

And this got me thinking.

How do Jagex know that every response they get on an external site is from an individual RuneScape player?

As we all know, every post on these forums can be tied back to an actual players account, and Jagex can see in their data how involved each account is in the game. This can be useful data when gauging the quality of the RSOF responses of those players.

However, there is no way of Jagex knowing whether those responding on other sites, such as the Facebook example above, actually have accounts on RuneScape, or whether they are even human!

AI has seen a surge in growth over the past two years, and I am sure we are all aware of the number of fake accounts that have been made on the likes of X to sway public opinion (particularly when politics is involved). Indeed, the feedback garnered by Jagex on these external sites would be small fry in comparison to other things out there, but my point remains: How can Jagex trust the data they collect?

I have made it clear elsewhere on these forums that there are many other issues with these external sites. However, this is one that could cause a lot of trouble in the long run.

So, Jagex - if you are reading - perhaps it would be prudent to have a plan B in place, and raise the RSOF from the dead in the near future, to ensure you can get that quality data you will most certainly need one day.

They are asking for feedbacks. They aren't taking a poll and over 9,000 "players" suggesting the same thing won't really matter because it is still the same suggestion.

They are also not just posting the call for feedbacks on FB. They posted it on Reddit yesterday and I reported it on FGU.

And how does Jagex know the posts on Reddit are from real players?

As I mentioned, they are just looking for ideas. Ideas are ideas. Good ideas are good ideas. It doesn't matter if good ideas come from real players or not. They can come from Jagex's observation on ideas from other games and other developers too.

Here's hoping Jagex are not as narrow minded as you.

If Jagex were to ask players opinions on a certain topic, such as what to do with clan citadels, if 95% of the feedback is to remove them, can they truly trust that data?

They aren't polling, so they aren't counting if there are 95% or 0.00001% of the comments come from real players at all.

They are also asking our opinions to ADD content, not to remove anything. Even if 95% of the comments call for Content A to be added, Content B and Content C as recommended by the remaining 5% can be added too. Good suggestions are going to be considered and implemented when applicable, they aren't mutually exclusive.

Necromancy is not an event that dies off in maybe 8 weeks, it is a forever content. Jagex have unlimited time to consider and implement unlimited good ideas. The more good ideas the merrier.

"It doesn't matter if good ideas come from real players or not."

Have we just learned the secret to the direction of the game since the trend toward social media engagement?

(answers OP's question w/o answering OP's question)

I believe they still consider good ideas from the RSOF, as long as it exists. That said, it is not too late to voice in your opinion. I even have made a thread on this topic in the FGU. We still have hours to make our voices heard.

Indeed.

Dilbert has once again derailed a thread by answering a question that was never asked. It was always going to happen before the end :D
