I’m curious if anyone knows or if this is something that would be nice for Jagex to take into account for the death system, but does anyone know what happens with death in the event you lose power at home or your wifi service goes out while participating in combat which results in your character dying.

Are you SOL with recovering your gear or does RS allow you to sign back in hours later and process through the death interface?

You die, you respawn in Death's office, regardless you died naturally or to a power failure at home. Death will keep you items for more than hours. You need to pay him a modest fee to get your items back.

This death mechanism has been vastly accepted in RS3 for a long time, and is even more popular recently when death cost is reduced by 90%. So there is really no need to change it.

More or less curious if this was a consideration in place and how long death remains onto your items before you lose anything. I don’t play enough anymore to realistically give a crap what updates are being pushed lol

Jagex can't tell the difference between a power / internet loss, and you suddenly shutting down the computer / disconnecting the internet deliberately - they handle it all the same. If you die before you time out from disconnection, you will end up in Death's office like Dilbert said, and I believe you have 24-48+ hours (I don't recall entirely) before your items are lost beyond recovery.... Things may be looking down now, but I see a light at the end of the tunnel;
Do you think I should get off the tracks?

Yes. Concerns about unintentional disconnects (i.e. power/internet disruption) was one of the reasons Jagex reworked the RS3 death system to allow safe item reclaim (for a small fee). Never uses treasure hunter keys. Never buys runecoins or bonds. Never pays extra for 'Premier' status or passes. Never will.

Reclaiming from Death's Office is not like retrieving your items from a gravestone. I don't know if there is even a timer with Death's mechanics. Even if there is one, I am very sure it is very, very long as once I have lost my internet service for days and found myself Death's Office unsurprisingly and my stuff were all still there, and when the timer really expired Death would just reach into my coin pouch and took the coin in exchange for my stuff he was holding without my consent.

Another thing you may be interested to know is we can save not just 3 or 4 items on death in the old school era, but 5 in RS3 now.

Death cost is hardly an issue to most RS3 players now.
If
there was actually a timer on Death's reclaim service, what I can think of is to add an option for us to automatically reclaim our items at a duration we can set manually.
