From the latest RS3 monthly newsletter:

"That's not all, either. We can now confirm that we are working on an update that will give Jagex Account holders extended AFK time in RuneScape. We expect it will be ready for all Jagex Accounts in August this year - more news on that in the coming months!"

This is really good news for all of us RS3 players, especially the causal ones.

Jagex is saving this good idea as a business incentive for the Jagex Accounts promotion. ;)

This news probably means the full launch of Jagex Accounts may come soon, if not in August it may not be much later than that.

i can see where this is heading lol.

anyone who's played an idle game knows that most of them have a system where when they log off doing a task that task continues (in a diminished state) while offline and when you log on you collect after period of time offline ... this is the only way this can progress making it an iever more idle game

you can already buy your way through the majority of levels/skills but there are still some that you cannot and must be active and this fills that gap.

That's what happening in OSRS with extended AFK timer. It is just about time we get similar, if not the same, thing in RS3.

Yep, RuneScape is slowly turning into an idle game.

Pretty much.

Find it odd that botting is against the rules but this is one of the main things bots do.

This is like Bonds. When Mod MMG added Bonds to RS3 and OSRS, they said it is a measure to combat bots.

When OSRS allowed Runelite to extend the AFK timer to a whooping 30 minutes, they pulled a similar "an important message from Mod MMG".

I don't think we need anti-botting AFK timer extension in RS3, but it is still good for causal players. Imagine we can stay in the Dungeoneering Hole longer in the future. :P
