Hi Nen, you are not alone in experiencing the disappearing avatar phenomenon, there have been many posts on this forum about the same thing over time.
My clan has 3 avatars, and one of them is forever disappearing, doesn't seem anything you can do but keep calling it back as you said. If you have more than one avatar, try a different one and see if that has the same effect.
It might be less flighty if you try a different world - but not really an option when you have a clan homeworld
