I know that in clans with more than one deputy owner when there is no Owner or if the Owner simply demoted themselves the game will automatically promote the Deputy that has been a Deputy the longest.

Now I have a question about how that is determined. Because I have recently been made Owner and have a Deputy that I intend to take over in the event I leave, get banned, ect. However there are Deputies (old owners) that have been Deputies for far longer.

If I simply demote them, then re-promote them will that reset the timer? Or do I need to leave them demoted for a full game tick? Or will the game continue to read the time from the first time they were promoted to Deputy so I need to make them Overseers instead?

These are some interesting questions that I would love to know the answers to. This is a tricky mechanic to deal with, and I've not seen a clear explanation of it anywhere that I can recall.

Regardless, passing Clan Ownership to a Deputy Owner can be done several ways, and you shouldn't need to worry about the time factor. If Clan Ownership is intended to be passed to a specific member, ensuring that person is the only one at the Deputy Owner rank by demoting other Deputies to Overseer temporarily is the safest and simplest option. The new Clan Owner can then correct the ranks of those who were demoted prior to the transfer.

If you are permanently banned in the Clan Owner's rank, or do not log in to RuneScape for 12 months or longer, a current Deputy Owner can make a request on the Inactive Clan Leaders thread to gain Ownership of the clan. This request can be made by any of the Deputies, so time is not a factor here.

In an ideal scenario, precautions should always be taken to ensure no mistakes are made and Clan Ownership does not go to the wrong person. Leaving this up to the mechanic where it goes to the "oldest" Deputy if the Clan Owner leaves the clan or demotes him/herself can be a risky transfer.

I hope I've given you the information you were looking for. If not, or if you need something clarified, please let me know.

Hi Sicariu,

I actually posted on that thread (the inactive clan leader) to become the Owner of my clan. I'm still curious and hoping a J-Mod will answer with more specifics about the mechanics. I know the concept of demote them all but the one is good, but we all know how well demotions can go. I mean, I don't forsee myself leaving, or getting banned any time soon so right now it's not a problem. I'm mostly posting to find out if my attempt to reset the order was actually successful. (If the order they are presented on the official clan page is an indicator then no I didn't reset them.)

Ah, I see. I just wanted to give as much information as I could regarding how to transfer Clan Ownership to another clan member in spite of the mechanic that will put the "oldest" Deputy into the Clan Owner's rank should the Owner leave or demote him/herself while there is more than one member at the Deputy Owner rank at that time.

As far as the ordering of clan members on your Clan Page goes, I don't know how it is based. In my clan, just going through the Admin+ ranks, they are neither in the order they were promoted to their current ranks, nor are they in the order they joined the clan. Judging by this, the order seems to be random, so it may not be a reliable way to check for that.

Realistically, the only way to know for certain in what order the Deputies are to assume the Clan Owner's rank would be to test it. However, that is not ideal, and it could be risky if someone does not want to give up the position once obtained.

Ideally, Jagex should add a "Transfer Clan Ownership" feature to the Clan System that allows for a quick, easy transfer to a specific Deputy Owner. This would eliminate the confusion that the current system causes and eliminate the excessive step of demoting other Deputies to ensure it goes to the intended person. This isn't the place for suggestions though. :P

Interesting question.

I would say given that it's a case of who has been deputy longest, rather than who has been in clan longest, I would say that demoting them 1 rank for a period of.......... (2 days? 3days? 5 weeks?) I think that would be the tricky one, it would depend how often the Jagex sustem rechecks that information.

I would say if they have been demoted when it rechecks, then the timer would reset.

Speculation of course, interesting question.
